Accelerated Corrosion Tests - Uses: Accelerated
corrosion tests have been found useful and necessary in the
following applications.
- Product development (improvement).
- Quality assurance.
- Materials selection in design, when used as relative (comparative) performance
indicators for a specific corrosion mechanism or mechanisms.
- Materials selection in design, when used as initial rapid screening tool.
- Failure investigations and verification of corrosion control strategies (relative
performance, establishing trends).
- Using a range of tests to minimize limitations of individual tests.
The very high number of standardized accelerated corrosion test procedures, widely used
within numerous industries, is testament to the usefulness of such tests.
