Accelerated Corrosion Testing:

New products used for corrosion control purposes continue to be developed to meet demanding user performance and safety requirements, and to be in compliance with increasingly more stringent environmental regulations.

Increasingly, such products have to be developed on the basis of short term accelerated laboratory corrosion tests, without the benefit of long term in-service corrosion performance tests.
(remember the good old days ..?)

Unfortunately, the nature and intricacies of corrosion damage and relevant testing are easily misunderstood within the broader engineering/scientific community. The many different corrosion test procedures can be confusing, controversial and applied inappropriately when their fundamental principles, advantages and limitations are not understood.
