| Paint, design: The following relates to designing for paint coatings:
| The relatively new ISO 8501-3 standard (Part 3:
Preparation grades of welds, cut edges and other areas with surface imperfections)
describes preparation grades for welds, cut edges and other areas on steel surfaces with
imperfections. The different preparation grades have been broadly correlated to
different corrosivity categories. More severely corrosive exposure conditions require more
stringent surface preparation.
The (three) different preparation grades in this standard range from P1 - light
preparation (minimum preparation before paint application) to P3 - very thorough
preparation (surface free of significant visible imperfections). These grades apply to six
types of welding imperfections, three types of edge imperfections and six other surface
imperfections. |
